Installation Guidelines
Mosaic Elements come ready for quick hanging or easy installation.
Instant Hanging
Mosaic Elements are very light (~1lbs) and can be hung on a small picture hanging nail. If hanging via nail is not convenient, use 4 square of 3M Interior Mounting Tape.

Permanent installation
Mosaic Elements are ready to be embedded into mortar according to industry standards for glass or ceramic mosaics. Mosaic Elements are 8″ x 8″ and 3/8″ thick. Many surround tile options are 5/16″ thick. Mosaic Elements work well in relief from a low-profile surround tile. That is, they will come out from the wall slightly farther (1/16″) than the surround tile which adds to their visual impact in an installation.
Ideas for selecting surround tile
Your designer or architect will be able to assist with selecting surround tile that integrates your space and Mosaic Elements. These design professionals know what tile is available in your area from local suppliers. They will plan an installation, managing all surface transitions and functional considerations.
If you are a DIYer, here are some suggestions for tile that could work with Mosaic Elements. Just note that not all tile options are available from every local supplier and be sure to compare tile samples and Mosaic Elements glass samples to be sure palettes coordinate.
Daltile Natural Hues
Ceramic wall tile in a huge range of colors, ranging from lovely neutral grays and browns to bold purples, greens and blues. The Natural Hues series is 5/16″ thick and available in a range of sizes. The 2″ x 8″, 4″ x 4″ or 8″ x 8″ field tiles would connect with the 8″ x 8″ proportion of the Mosaic Elements, making for a seamless installation.
You can find more information on the Natural Hues series here at the Daltile site.
Daltile Festiva
The Festiva series is another option for clean, modern ceramic wall tile. There are more than 20 modern colors available. The Festiva tile is 5/16″ thick and available in a range of sizes. The 8″ x 8″ would work perfectly with the Mosaic Elements proportions.
You can find more information on the Festiva series here at the Daltile site.
Daltile Modern Dimensions
The Modern Dimensions line of wall glazed ceramic tiles offers very sophisticated neutrals (like “urban putty” and “architectural gray”) in interesting proportions. Mosaic Elements could float within a surround of 4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ with a small grout outline.

Glass Tile Surround
Of course, I do love a gorgeous glass surround tile and have ordered many times from Susan Jablon. She has a huge selection of glass, stone and even stainless steel tile and has been great to work with over the years. Tile samples can be ordered online. I can also work with you to coordinate your surround tile colors with the colors in the Mosaic Elements.

Bijou
I have used a number of different colors in the gorgeous Bijou collection of 1″ x 1″ and 2″ x 2″ both glossy and frosted. Susan carries a huge range of colors in this series from sophisticated neutrals through brilliant colors. Select the rows+columns stacked layout for easy insetting of Mosaic Elements with a small grout outline.

Recycled Glass tile
If you’re staying green, check out the huge selection of recycled glass tile. She carries both 1″ x 1″ and some 1″ x 2″ tile sizes in this line. I’d avoid ‘running brick’ and select the rows+columns stacked layout for easy insetting of Mosaic Elements with a small grout outline.

Technical Specifications
Substrate
1/4″ Easy Board from Custom Building Supplies is a new generation of lightweight backerboard designed for interior tiling projects. Easyboard is installed just like traditional cement backerboard. Custom Building Products specifies a polymer-modified thinset mortar.
Frame
Schluter-SCHIENE is designed to provide edging for tile coverings. In this application, the edging permits pre-grouting of the Mosaic Elements and manages the transition with surround tile. The anodized aluminum edging is ready for direct installation into mortar. Work with materials and tools that will not scratch or damage the anodized aluminum surface. Protect the frame and glass from contact with setting materials and grouts during installation.
